3. The phone must be rooted and CWM Recovery installed.

4. Ensure you have backed up your important data.

Step by Step Guide to install CyanogenMod 10.1 on Samsung Captivate

Step 1: Download CyanogenMod 10.1 RC4 for Samsung Captivate & Google Apps, copy both the downloaded file into an external SD card.

Step 2: Switch off your phone and boot into CWM Recovery by “pressing and holding Volume Up + Home + Power buttons“. In the Recovery mode, use the Volume keys to move up/down and the Power key to select a highlighted item.

Step 3: Now, perform a full data wipe by selecting “wipe data/factory reset” and “wipe cache partition” and then go to “advanced options in CWM Recovery” from there select “wipe Dalvik Cache“.

Step 4: Now, go to the main menu choose “install zip from SD card” > Select CyanogenMod 10.1 (Which you have downloaded and placed in SD card) > give “Yes” for confirmation. The process will take 3-5 minutes to install the ROM so wait for the whole process to complete.

Step 5: Repeat the above step again and now select “Google Apps” instead of ROM zip file.

Step 6: Finally, go back to the main menu and select “reboot system” now. The phone will take 10-15 minutes to start and initialize all the services & apps because this is the first time you are starting a phone after installing CyanogenMod. Don’t be hesitate and wait for complete process.

    I have Captivate 2.3.5 gingerbread with Kernel version 2.6.35.7-I897UCKK4-cornv705. When trying to install the rom it stops loading after 5 seconds. Any ideas why?

    hi i have samsung captivate i897 and i am having gingerbread 2.3.5 kernal i want to upgrade my cell phone to jelly beans 4.2.2 but i dont have proper steps to upgrade and also afraid that my phone will not give same performance after upgrading it through CyanogenMod 10.2 x.
    Please help me whether i should upgrade my phone or use the same old gingerbread i dont my phone to become slow after upgrade what should i do?
